Therapy that meets you where you are
Amberlight Hypnotherapy is a warm, supportive Solution Focused Hypnotherapy practice helping people create positive, lasting change. Using a combination of modern neuroscience, positive psychology, solution-focused techniques and therapeutic relaxation, I help clients understand their minds, build on their strengths and develop practical ways of moving towards the life they want.
Sessions provide a calm, confidential space to step back from the challenges of everyday life, focus on what's possible and begin making meaningful changes one step at a time.
How I can help
You don't need to have a diagnosis, or even know exactly what's wrong, to know that you'd like something to change.
Sometimes it's a specific problem that's getting in the way. At other times, you might simply feel stuck in patterns of thinking, feeling or behaving that no longer seem helpful.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is designed to help you focus less on the problem itself and more on the changes you'd like to make, using a combination of solution-focused conversation and hypnosis.
-
Anxiety can show up in many different ways. You might find yourself worrying about things that haven't happened, replaying conversations, imagining worst-case scenarios or simply finding it difficult to switch off.
For some people, anxiety can become more intense, with periods of panic or panic attacks that seem to arrive suddenly and feel difficult to control.
We can work together towards feeling calmer, more in control and better able to respond to everyday situations without anxiety taking over.
-
Sometimes there isn't one obvious problem. Work, relationships, responsibilities and everyday pressures can gradually accumulate until even relatively small things start to feel difficult to manage.
Hypnotherapy can support you in reducing feelings of overwhelm, thinking more clearly and developing a calmer response to the demands of everyday life.
-
Low mood can make it difficult to find motivation, enjoyment or a sense of progress. When we're feeling low, it's also easy to become caught in patterns of negative thinking that reinforce the way we already feel.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy takes a forward-looking approach, helping you notice what's working, identify small signs of progress and gradually move towards the thoughts, behaviours and experiences you'd like more of in your life.
Hypnotherapy isn't a substitute for medical or psychological care where this is needed, and I'll always encourage you to seek appropriate support alongside our work.
-
Perhaps you struggle to fall asleep because your mind becomes busiest the moment your head hits the pillow. Or you wake during the night and find your thoughts immediately spring into action.
Improving the way we respond to stress and helping the mind settle can support healthier sleep patterns and make it easier to switch off at the end of the day.
-
Self-doubt can influence far more than how confident we feel. It can affect the opportunities we take, the boundaries we set, how comfortable we feel around other people and what we believe we're capable of.
It can also become particularly noticeable when we're expected to perform — whether that's speaking in public, giving a presentation, attending an interview, taking an exam or doing something else where we feel under scrutiny.
We can work on building confidence from the things you're already doing well and helping you approach challenging situations with a calmer and more constructive mindset.
-
A fear response can feel completely disproportionate while still being very real. Specific phobias might involve animals, flying, medical or dental procedures, enclosed spaces or countless other situations.
Hypnotherapy can be used to help change the automatic response associated with a particular fear, so that it becomes easier to approach the situation differently.
-
Sometimes we find ourselves repeatedly thinking or behaving in ways we don't consciously want to, even when we recognise that the pattern isn't helping us.
This might involve everyday habits or more persistent intrusive thoughts, compulsions and repetitive behaviours associated with OCD.
Where hypnotherapy is appropriate, our focus is not simply on trying to force those thoughts or behaviours away, but on helping you develop calmer and more helpful responses and work towards the changes that matter to you.
-
Our physical and psychological wellbeing aren't entirely separate. Stress and anxiety can influence the way we experience physical sensations, and conditions such as IBS can be particularly sensitive to the relationship between the brain and the digestive system.
Hypnotherapy may also be used alongside appropriate medical care to support people living with persistent pain or discomfort, including helping with relaxation, coping and the way attention is directed towards physical sensations.
Physical symptoms should always be appropriately medically assessed rather than assumed to have a psychological cause.
-
Our eating behaviours can be influenced by habits, emotions, stress and patterns that have developed over many years.
Rather than focusing on restrictive diets or promising weight loss, hypnotherapy can support you in understanding the behaviours you'd like to change and developing a calmer, more intentional relationship with food and everyday choices.
Where eating difficulties may involve an eating disorder or require specialist medical, nutritional or psychological support, hypnotherapy should not be used as a substitute for that care.
-
You don't have to be struggling with a particular problem to benefit from hypnotherapy.
Perhaps there's something you'd like to do differently, a change you've been putting off, or simply a version of everyday life that would feel better than the one you're experiencing now.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is built around identifying what you'd like to be different, recognising the resources you already have and taking manageable steps towards that change.
Not sure where you fit?
That's completely fine.
These areas overlap, and people rarely fit neatly into categories. You don't need to decide which label best describes you before getting in touch.
An initial consultation gives us the opportunity to talk about what's happening for you, what you'd like to be different and whether Solution Focused Hypnotherapy feels like an appropriate approach.
